The 8th Little Kids Day Out will be held on Saturday 2nd September 2023. This FREE annual community event is organised by a committee of early childhood professionals and community members. The event aims to connect families with early learning centres, schools, support services, playgroups, sporting clubs and creative arts studios and businesses supporting young children in our region.

The last event saw between 2500 and 3000 adults and children attend the event. Over 300 volunteers from 128 organisations, businesses, schools and early learning centres contributed to the success of the event. The performances, creative experiences, info stands, displays, exhibitors and demonstrations, food vans and prizes offered on the day will ensure the success of the event. At the last event, fifty early learning centres and schools across the Gympie Region were involved.

In 2023 we are committed to ensuring the event showcases local performers and promotes services & businesses that support families with young children across the Gympie Region.

Why the Little Kids Day Out?

The target audience of the event is families with young children across our region. The information booths, activities and performances that are provided are suitable for families with children under the age of eight years old but are of interest to older children as well. The committee plans to have as many support service providers, schools, early learning centres, sporting clubs, creative arts studios and businesses supporting young children involved in the event. Each will distribute information on how they can support families and provide an activity and how they can support families with young children.

The event aims to have, as much as possible, activities that are open ended and can be done at home by parents. Parents participate in activities with their children on the day. Volunteers supervising each activity, will model positive interactions between adults and children in the hope that the parents will replicate these at home. The event aims to aid and encourage increased high-quality parental engagement in their children’s learning and development. Our aim is to also encourage parental uptake in participation of services and resources available in our region. The committee hopes the event will have a positive influence in children’s readiness for school.

HEALTHY PLAY Project

The Healthy Play Project is supported by funding from the Australian Government through the PHN Program. Healthy Play is facilitated by childcare professionals offering parents support with their children aged 0 – 5, and or home schooled children, to navigate Primary Health Care Services and any other informal supports required. Healthy Play will do this by providing the community with mobile playdates/clinics offering non clinical and clinical pre screenings at a variety of settings and locations, and visiting existing activities such as local shopping centres, playgroups, schools, Indigenous spaces, parks, family fun days and places requested by groups of parents.

The aim of these sessions and appearances is to provide families with easy access to our program and get that support for yourself or your child. There is no cost associated with this program to parents/families. Watch this space grow! Healthy Play staff have extensive experience supporting parents/families/children and very much look forward to meeting with you.
